I know I know, he's 3 weeks old! I swear one baby is harder than 2!!! Well this one is anyway:) I thought I better write out what I remember from his birth before I totally forget everything.
We had scheduled a c-section "just in case" but I never in a million years thought we'd have to use it. Well 39 weeks came and we decided with my doc that it was probably best, and safest to just go ahead and go as planned. We had to be a the hospital at 5:30AM so Rick came over to stay with the girls and get them off to school. We got all checked in and were just waiting to meet our baby!!! The tension and anxiety could be felt in the room, but the nurses were great and everyone was so thrilled that this was a surprise gender baby!
My Dr. showed up and it was time to roll!! Once again my body did not like the spinal and it had to be done twice, but hey at least it worked:) Dr, Norton got started and asked Brian if he'd like to announce the sex, of course he would! After a couple minutes of pressure, all I remember hearing was a high pitched SCREAM! I thought for sure that it was a girl. Then I hear Brian laughing. All he could do was sit there and laugh! Finally another doctor said "are you going to tell her what she has!?" He snapped out of it and said "THAT'S A BOY!"
It was one of the greatest and most shocking moments of my life....and I'll never forget the joy on Brian's face and relief I felt to have a healthy baby screaming away! He went over to check on him getting cleaned up while they finished on me. It felt like forever until Brian could bring him over to me and I got to give him a kiss on the head. I was still in shock that we have a BOY! They announce his weight, at 8 pounds 3 ounces...and my doctor looks over the blue sheet at me and says, thank goodness we didn't try a VBAC. I got all done and we went into recovery where Henry got to come with us! Quite the change from the girls where I didn't see them for about 4 hours! The nurse brought him to me to hold for the first time and and we immediately did skin to skin and attempted to breastfeed. It was an awesome moment.
After recovery we got checked into our room and it was time to let the family know they could come see us! We didn't tell them what he was until they got there and I think my mom jogged into the room:) Wilson's brought the girls up after school and they were So excited. Klaire got a little quite and upset as she didn't like all the tubes and crap that was still on me, but after awhile and some big sister presents she warmed up. Grace was all smiles and right up in his face from the first glance (and still is!).
I had incredible nurses the entire time walking me thorough this crazy breastfeeding adventure, and the "day 2/circ day" they don't tell you about if you have a boy. This is the day he gets circumcised, and for us also the day he got HUNGRY, before my milk came in. YIKES. There were MANY tears from both of us. But somehow we got through it, also with the help of about one ounce of formula...that's all it took to tide him over.
We stayed 4 nights (why not?:) and then it was time to take our precious boy home!!! It was just Brian and I and I loved all the time we had just the 3 of us. Our family was AWESOME in helping with the girls and keeping them in school and on schedule. We are So blessed.
...and I should mention our great friend Korryn won the baby pool! Next time I see you I have your prize!!!!:)
