We saw the ENT today. First they did a hearing test which was hilarious on a 6 month old baby. We sat in the booth and he did respond to his name a few times. He mostly sat there in awe of the noises and surprised that they knew his name:)
The last round of antibiotics seems to resolve
most of the fluid. There is still a tiny bit in the right ear (the one he grabs
while nursing) BUT the doc thinks we should stick with our original plan for
now to wait and see what summer brings. Hoping it will bering fewer viruses leading to ear infections! I’m relieved that I don’t have to
send my baby off into surgery for the time being, but also hoping that we don’t
end up with another infection right around the corner. I did ask about that and
he said if we get another string of them…to call. So we’ll play it by ear (hee
hee that joke never gets old to me). For now, no tubes. He said the newest research is indicating that if you
can get them to age 2 without intervention, that the tubes aren’t all that much more beneficial than
simply the anatomy getting larger, and immune systems stronger. That was
interesting to me because that’s exactly when we had the girls’ done. So I
guess we’ll never know if it was the tubes, or just them.
Here's a picture of him messing with that right ear while nursing....but I guess I'll let the doctors do their job and trust they know how to proceed.
