It's time to announce my new project. I have to keep myself busy somehow right? ha.
It all started when a gal at work had these ADORABLE mittens. I had to ask where she got them, she said they were made out of felted wool sweaters, and that a lady here in town makes them. The kicker-they were more than $30 at a craft fair! I got to thinking what fun gifts those would be, plus I wanted a pair and heck if I'm going to spend that! So I searched and searched online for a comparable pattern, finally found one that sort of worked, tweaked it a bit, and tada! Mittens! Since then I've been frequenting Goodwill and thrift stores for wool sweaters to shrink (felting is the technical word-that makes them sturdy, cozy and WARM-they are also lined with fleece). I've been very busy in my little spare bedroom sewing away after the girls go to bed.
Anyway here's my little shop. I know I won't make any real money-it's really fun to have a creative (seasonal) hobby and look out if you're on my Christmas list--guess what you're getting!?!??!!!:)

It's named this because after my dad found out what I was doing he sent numerous e-mails with the 3 little kittens poem. I added the silly because it reminds me of my girlies, and it stuck!
There are only a couple posted (one sold!) but after this weekend I'll be posting many more. Let me know if you'd like a pair, the price for my family and friends is $22. :)

I'm so happy you took the Etsy plunge! I have had the best time with it! And I just love your mittens and that you are upcycling! Even better! And congrats on your first sale! Was it to a "stranger"?! I love to promote other fellow etsy shops, can I mention yours on my blog? Can't wait to see more handmades! You know how much I love them. :)
Erika,
Funny thing is I was at a craft show this past weekend and had a booth next a woman that did the mittens as well she did kids ones too. And stocking caps. She did very well. Something told me not to buy from her. So yeah I can't wait to purchase some. Are you going to be doing kids in the near future? Well Good Luck with everything. Rachele
Hi Rachele!
I'm going to be working on a kid mitten pattern this weekend...I'll let you know how it goes:) and I just posted a few more mittens on my etsy site. :)

Hey you.. I was wondering what you have been up to! "your project".. That's amazing! I could never imagine being able to do that! They look awesome!! I'm definitely impressed. I'll have to try them on when I come home in a month ;)
My Lord Erika: mother of twins, wife, work full-time, home owner, sister, daughter, grand-daughter, friend, & now mitten maker. I hope you find time for YOU because you deserve it! Love the mittens! They are incredibly warm, soft, flexible, & one of a kind!
You amaze me! How do you have the time? I'm so impressed. I'm lucky if I have the energy to make dinner when I get home from work, let alone mittens! :) And, I don't have twin girls! It sounds like a fun project. Plus, you get to go to thrift stores and you know I love that. :)
